The San Juan Market is one of the gems of exotic and gourmet gastronomy in Mexico City, and it’s a meeting point for national and international chefs, as well as lovers of good food.
As part of FAVC Experiences, we take our members on an unparalleled tour through the streets of the Historic Center, guiding them through the history of the temples in the San Juan neighborhood and culminating at this famous market to taste some of its products.
The historic San Juan neighborhood
Southwest of the Historic Center is the San Juan Market neighborhood, one of the areas with the most artistic monuments and the heart of Mexico City’s most important gastronomic and cultural experiences, such as the San Juan Market and Chinatown.
In this emblematic place, we meet our Fiesta Americana Vacation Club members to give them a tour of its streets and visit the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Basilica of Saint Joseph and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, two of the temples richest in history that the city center preserves.
Tour of San Juan Market in Mexico City
After reviewing the history of the temples, we head to the San Juan Market in Mexico City, located four blocks from Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas.
Inside, there is a vast culinary world for curious, adventurous palates: armadillo, rabbit, iguana, venison, wild boar, quail, duck, eels, scorpions, and tarantulas.
There are also singular fruits that fill the market with color: passion fruit, lychee, star fruit, persimmon, taro, yucca, and yam.
During this visit, our invited members learned about and tasted some of the most exotic and distinctive ingredients in the neighborhood.
They also enjoyed more traditional gourmet foods like tapas, cheeses, and red wine, accompanied by explanations from one of the vendors.
After a day full of cultural and gastronomic experiences in the neighborhood and the San Juan Market in Mexico City, we ended the afternoon pampering our members even more with a small gift.
