What is adventure tourism?
El adventure tourism activities is part of ecotourism, where people enjoy the destination’s natural landscape through different physical activities with a touch of adrenaline at various levels.
The main goal of these experiences is for travelers to feel challenging emotions while disconnecting from their daily routine and marveling at nature, without failing to follow proper safety measures.
Now that you know what adventure tourism is and you want to add a bit of adrenaline to your next vacation, here’s a list of activities you can do on your next trip. Take note!
Activities you can do with adventure tourism
The activities you can do in this type of tourism are divided into three types: air, land, and sea. Some of them are:
Air adventure activities
- Bungee: one of the best-known extreme activities, and only the bravest dare to try it.
- Skydiving: if you’re a beginner, we recommend doing it with a professional who knows how to handle the parachute.
- Hot air balloon ride: from a balloon you can enjoy incredible landscapes with family or friends.
- Zip-line: an original and fun way to take a fast tour through natural areas.

Land adventure activities
- Caving: exploring caves, caverns, and/or underground cavities.
- Rappelling: descending slopes with a certain degree of inclination using rope equipment.
- Hiking: walks through rugged landscapes such as forests, volcanoes, or jungle.
Sea adventure activities
- Diving: can be on reefs, in cenotes, lakes, lagoons, or rivers.
- Rafting: navigating fast-moving rivers.
- Kayaking: rowing in small boats using your own muscle power to travel the landscape.
While we’d love to enjoy these activities in every destination we visit, the reality is that it’s not possible. For example, the the activities in Cabo won’t necessarily be the same as those you’ll find in Puerto Vallarta – despite both being beach destinations – because the geographical conditions aren’t the same.
If you’ve already chosen what you’d like to experience on your next vacation but aren’t sure if you’ll find that activity at your destination, you can search your browser by putting the activity and the destination, for example“diving in Los Cabos,”to know for sure and plan your vacation well.
Now that you know some adventure tourism activitiesare you ready for the challenge?
