Resort and hotel: how do they differ?
While both types of concepts refer to offering accommodation to travelers, they include different types of services.
Hotels
Strictly speaking, hotels are properties that offer accommodation in cities, states, or beaches, whether for tourism, business, or simply for a one-night stay before taking another flight.
The services that a hotel usually offers are:
- Rooms with bed and bathroom
- Restaurant
- Conference room or event halls
Services are basic, as they are intended for lodging and not entertainment activities
The key point is this: hotels are divided into different categories, depending on their facilities, services, and the level of luxury or comfort. This is where the definition of a resort or resort hotel comes in.
Resorts
They refer to properties that, in addition to having the basic services mentioned above, provide their guests with a better entertainment and comfort experience:
- Access to the beach and swimming pools
- Spa and/or gym
- Playrooms
- Events and leisure activities
- Restaurants, bars, and even convenience stores
- Proximity to tourist attractions
Therefore, we can say that all resorts are hotels, but not all hotels are resorts.
